How can Free Software meet the needs of the educational sector? (Norsk versjon her)
How has Free Software been employed and received in schools at different places in the world?
We present Free Software-projects that today is used by millions of pupils and teachers in schools all over the world. We do not need – any more – to ask ourself when Linux will conquer the desktop PC. It has happened.
How might these installations inspire others?
At October 13. 2008 we invite to a one day conference for users, teachers and school leaders who use or might want to use Free Software in schools. The conference will present the following issues:
Large installations of Linux in schools, from different parts of the world. The economy and principal political and pedagogical reasons behind these installations. The technology of these installations will be presented, but the focus will be be on the economy/politics and pedagogic reasons for this technology. (Deeper technical discussions, for developers, is welcomed in the /HackLab and the preceding Gathering.)
- The way in which these installations meet the need of end users.
- The way in which these installations have been received by end users.
- The major end-user applications of these installations.
The audience will mostly be from Norway, but speakers will be a broad international group. The conference language is English. It's also possible for users to participate at the developer gathering which are held in the preceding weekend.
